John Lennon began the discussion when he asked us to “Imagine.”
Forty-three years later the conversation continues.
Imagine getting up every workday excited about going to a place where everyone gets along.
Imagine working in a place where if someone borrows something, they return it.
Imagine working in a place where when someone uses something, they replace it.
Imagine working in a place where when someone dirties something, they clean it.
Imagine working in a place where if someone breaks something they don’t leave it – they report it and then repair or replace it.
Imagine working in a place where good effort is rewarded with a “thank you” and an occasional sincere nod of recognition.
Imagine working in a place where “know-it-alls” are ignored, get the hint and go away.
Imagine working in a place where mistakes are addressed immediately, the conversation focusses only on the behaviour to be corrected and the tone is adult at all times.
Imagine working in a place where the only discussion of coworkers and colleagues is flattering and complimentary.
Imagine working in a place where office politics has no place.
Imagine working in a place where everyone gets along as they are there to pursue a common goal.
Imagine working in a place where folks only focus is on how they are doing and not on how – and what – others are doing.
Imagine working in a place where there was no concern about how much other people make.
Imagine working in a place where egos’ are left in the parking lot.
Imagine working in place where people genuinely like each other and sincerely celebrate and enjoy each other’s accomplishments.
Imagine working in a place sans drama queens.
Imagine working in a place where promotions are based purely on merit and nothing else.
Imagine working in place where rivalry was friendly, information freely shared and help willingly given.
Imagine working in a place where everyone is on time.
Imagine working in a place where everyone is polite.
Imagine working in a place where everyone keeps their word.
Imagine working in a place where everyone finishes what they start.
Imagine working in a place where BMW (bitching, whining and moaning) was not part of the culture.
Imagine working in place where jealousy was unwelcome and never evident.
Imagine working in a place where anger was never present.
Imagine working in a place where instead of this scenario taking place – someone has an issue with you and the only person they DON’T discuss it with is you; this scenario takes place – some has an issue with you and the ONLY person they talk to about it is YOU.
Imagine working in a place you would proudly recommend to your friends and family.
Imagine Nirvana.
Well, that place can exist. It starts with each of us committing to taking the very best of ourselves to work each and every day, even when we don’t feel like it.
Perhaps, today, we don’t exemplify every example above but with effort and determination we can become the shining role model for all of it.
And sooner or later one person will join us, then another, and another and …
Well, just imagine the possibilities?
Till we read again.
